Silesian Museum in Katowice
The new building of the Silesian Museum was opened officially for visitors in June 2015. The Silesian Museum, currently located at the site of the former Katowice Hard Coal Mine, creates the Culture Zone together with other institutions. The museum usable space covers nearly 25,000 square metres. At the premises we may find, amongst others, the gallery of Polish art, the gallery of non-professional art, the laboratory of theatre space, and the exhibition devoted to the history and industry of the Upper Silesia.
For the needs of exhibition room, high-class audiovisual equipment was provided. Because there are no full partition walls at the premises and a large number of exhibitions is concentrated on a small area, we have decided to use Genelec loudspeakers characterised by narrow directivity which are appropriate for covering the near-field area with sound. They are mounted predominantly in the ceiling, while subwoofers are installed in the room walls. In one of the exhibitions, loudspeakers in 5.1 surround system have been installed. The sound processor used is Tesira, and specially prepared sounds are reproduced by recorders connected with input and output cards.
